A teen who went missing last week was found dead in a wrecked vehicle in Bertie County, investigators said.
The Bertie County Sheriff's Office said Sunday night that 18-year-old Dylan Lee Cullipher's body, along with his vehicle, were found partially submerged in a pond along Highway 17 near Windsor.
According to investigators, Cullipher was driving on the Highway 17 bypass, 4 miles east of Windsor, when he over-corrected his vehicle, causing it to overturn several times before coming to a rest in the pond.
Neither drug nor alcohol were suspected to be related to the wreck, said investigators.
The Sheriff's Office said Cullipher was last seen alive leaving the Midway area of Bertie County at about 11:45 p.m. Friday.
Friends said Cullipher was a recent graduate of Bertie Early College High School and wanted to go to North Carolina State University to study science. They said he was a joy to be around.
"With me being a teen and everything, I've never lost anyone close to me before," said Brent Dickerson, who attended school and church with Cullipher. "He was the guy [who] laughed the most."
Friends said funeral arrangements for Cullipher are on hold until the medical examiner completes an autopsy.
