NEW BERN, CRAVEN COUNTY -

A woman and her two daughters are indicted on felony charges for allegedly stealing more than $200,000 from a Craven County medical practice.

Lisa Norton, 53, and her daughters, Katherine Norton Cannon, 21, and Courtney Norton, 19, are accused of stealing the money from Carolina Craniospinal Neurosurgery in New Bern, according to District Attorney Scott Thomas.

The suspects are indicted on several felony counts of obtaining property by false pretense, investigators said.  If convicted, Lisa Norton would face a maximum of eight years in prison. Her daughters would each face an eight-month prison sentence.

Norton was a former office manager at the practice and her two daughters were occasional employees, investigators said. The more than $200,000 was stolen mainly through checks that Norton wrote, either to herself or to her daughters for work that was never done, according to investigators.

The indictments state that all three suspects obtained money belonging to the medical office by falsely representing that they were entitled to it and had authorization to take it.

The three suspects posted secured bonds and were released from jail. They are scheduled to appear in Craven County Superior Court during the week of June 10, 2013.
