RALEIGH -

A North Carolina House committee has canceled a meeting on legislation that would cleared the way for use of a kind of medicinal marijuana to treat a seizure disorder.

Tuesday's scheduled meeting was canceled moments before it was to start. Rep. Bert Jones, R-Rockingham, said the bill wasn't ready to be considered, and that he didn't know when it would be rescheduled.

Under the current version of the bill, a person could use hemp oil extract if they suffer from intractable epilepsy, are 18 years old, a North Carolina resident, and under the care of a neurologist.  It would also create a registry of hemp oil users and regulations for caregivers who administer the drug.

With intractable epilepsy, a person's seizures are unresponsive to traditional medicines.
