RALEIGH -

A prosecutor whose father was kidnapped by suspects who authorities say intended to kidnap her has asked a North Carolina legislative committee to support a bill to shroud the identity of law enforcement officials online.

Assistant District Attorney Colleen Janssen spoke Wednesday before a House judiciary committee that passed a measure letting state and federal prosecutors, police officers and federal judges get identifying information removed from city and county web sites. The bill's chief supporter says the legislation responds to Janssen's case.

An indictment says Janssen's father was kidnapped by alleged gang members because Colleen Janssen had prosecuted someone now in prison. Authorities say one member used the Internet to look up her address but actually found her father's home. Investigators say he was rescued safely after five days.
