NC legislative dustups align McCrory with House

RALEIGH, N.C. -

North Carolina's governor and the General Assembly have had political dustups over the years. So it's not surprising there are disagreements between Gov. Pat McCrory and fellow Republican legislative leaders.

What's unusual this time is the lines have often been drawn between the two chambers, with the governor on one side. Several substantial matters have set House Republicans and McCrory against Republican leaders in the Senate. They include completing tax overhaul plans, the budget and the future of the Dorothea Dix mental hospital property.

Senate Rules Chairman Tom Apodaca says McCrory's definitely siding with the House on several key issues. House Speaker Thom Tillis said House colleagues are working closely with McCrory because they want him to succeed.

McCrory told The Associated Press in an interview he's not playing favorites.
