Moral Monday Protests
RALEIGH, WAKE COUNTY -

The leader of the Moral Mondays movement that began last spring to protest legislation passed by North Carolina's GOP-controlled legislature says the protests won't abate in 2014 and will spread to other states.

Activists from a dozen states attended a meeting in Raleigh earlier this month to learn how to hold similar demonstrations in their areas. Georgia and Alabama plan protests of their own.

In North Carolina, the demonstrations were organized by the state chapter of the NAACP to fight a series of legislative actions that included rejecting Medicaid expansion and adding new voting restrictions.

The head of the North Carolina NAACP, the Rev. William Barber, says the protests will continue in 2014, starting with a mass march in February.
