Dana Outlaw was sworn in Tuesday night as the new mayor of New Bern.
Outlaw's family and friends attended the swearing-in ceremony at New Bern City Hall.
"We've got quite a few things in mind" for the city, Outlaw said of himself and the Board of Aldermen.
Lee Bettis, the outgoing mayor, encouraged support for Outlaw.
Before relinquishing power in what Bettis called a "bloodless revolution," the outgoing mayor declared December 10 "Nicole Bettis Day," in honor of his wife.
She supported him through his sometimes "tumultuous" term as mayor, Lee Bettis said.
Outlaw said one of his top priorities now is to continue to build a solid relationship with the Board of Aldermen, which includes three returning and three new members.
One of the newest challenges facing city leadership is finding a new city manager.
Current City Manager Mike Epperson resigned effective December 30, just three weeks into Outlaw's term as mayor.
Epperson declined NewsChannel 12's request for an interview.
