Local police officer named "Woman of the Year"

GREENVILLE, PITT COUNTY -

The North Carolina Law Enforcement Women's Association has named a Greenville officer as "Woman of the Year."

Officer Kolenya Edwards, a nine-year veteran of the Greenville Police Department, was named "Woman of the Year" at the NCLEWA annual conference held in Edneyville from Sept. 3 to 6.

Edwards is an East Carolina University graduate and a native of Roanoke Rapids. She works as a personnel and recruiting officer at the Greenville Police Department. Previously, she had worked as a patrol officer and detective.

Officer Edwards is a member of the GPD Honor Guard and a certified law enforcement instructor.  She also teaches self-defense classes for woman.
