Update: Suspect identified in shooting near downtown New Bern

Police at the scene said a man was shot in the leg near downtown New Bern, and managed to call for help at a nearby convenience store.

NEW BERN, CRAVEN COUNTY -

Police at the scene said a man was shot in the leg near downtown New Bern, and managed to call for help at a nearby convenience store.

Lieutenant Chandler Powell said a warrant is out for 23-year-old David McArthur King in connection with the shooting of a man near downtown New Bern, Thursday.

Police said the victim, 26-year-old Rico Deon Ta Ford of New Bern, was shot in the leg at the intersection of Bay and Crawford Streets, near Armstrong Grocery.

Rico Ford called 911 from the Five Points Food Mart on Broad Street at about 4 p.m., police said. He was taken to CarolinaEast Medical Center.

No other injuries were reported. There was no word of an arrest.

Detectives from the Major Case unit are investigating all the information and leads developed so far.

New Bern shooting

This is the second shooting in New Bern in just more than a week. On Oct. 16, a man was found with a gunshot wound to the leg on the 500 block of First Avenue. At last check, no arrest was made in that case.
