Police said they are searching for whoever shot a man in the head in Kinston over the weekend.

The Kinston Department of Public Safety said officers went to 1103 E. Caswell St. at about 4:40 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived, they found 26-year-old Elijahuan Rashaud Harper with a gunshot wound to his head.

Harper told officers he was approached by three black males while outside of a home at 103 S. Rochelle Blvd., according to police. The victim said he was then forced into the residence, where the suspects began "demanding stuff."

Harper told police one of the suspects shot him in the back of the head with a handgun, investigators said. The suspects then left, and the victim walked to East Caswell Street to get help.

Harper was taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital, before being transferred to Vidant Medical Center, said police. He was treated and released.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Commander R. Harrell at 252-939-3721 or the TIPS Line at 252-939-4020.
