Two Pitt County residents are in jail for allegedly hatching a plan to hire a hitman in order to have two people murdered.
Farmville Police on Friday arrested John Alton Moore, 66, and Edelmira Nichols, 59.
Each is charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder and conspiracy.
Police declined to name the two targeted victims, and would not comment on what type of relationship, if any, exists between Moore and Nichols.
The murder scheme was not successful and no one was hurt, police said.
The investigation into the pair began in mid-April and was in cooperation with the SBI, police said.
Moore and Nichols live in Fountain, but the targeted victims live in Farmville. That is why Farmville Police investigated.
Moore and Nichols are both in the Pitt County Jail under a $2 million bond. They're expected in court tomorrow for their first appearances.
