HOLLY RIDGE, ONSLOW COUNTY -

Police said two Onslow County parents grew marijuana near their home where their 3-year-old child was living.

According to warrants, 28-year-old Jeanna Gail Dillon and 30-year-old Raymond Allen Dillon, both of Trout Street in Holly Ridge, had more than 520 grams of marijuana that they were planning to sell.

The parents were growing the drug in flower pots near their house, the warrants stated. Their 3-year-old child was living in the home.

Police charged each suspect on June 19 with two felonies: maintaining a dwelling for controlled substance and conspiracy. They were also each charged with manufacturing marijuana, possession with intent to manufactures/sell/distribute schedule VI controlled substances, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In addition, the Dillons were charged with misdemeanor child abuse, prompting the Department of Social Services to investigate.

"It's very prevalent," said investigator Michael Gibbs. "It's more of a lifestyle, the situation that mom and dad are in, and the child has no way to separate themselves from the situation, so they have no choice but to be in it."

The suspects were each released on a $10,000 bond.
