Red Cross teaches students how to prepare for hurricanes

ARAPAHOE, PAMLICO COUNTY -

The hurricane season officially started this past Sunday, so students at Arapahoe Charter School learned the importance of safety during severe weather

Red Cross members talked to students about how to help their families get prepared when storms are headed our way.

Fourth grade teacher Amy Eisenhard said many of her students have dealt with flooding and severe weather in the past, so they understand why they need the things they need.

"I think what we're doing here today and accumulating materials for the buckets is a great way to help families be prepared. It's also a great way for our students to get involved to help the community members to be involved and prepared as well," Eisenhard said.

The Atlantic Hurricane season runs from June 1 to Nov. 30.
