Several school districts have announced new makeup days in response to the recent winter weather.
For Carteret County Schools, Monday, Feb. 17 will be extended from an early release day to a full instructional day for students, according to Dr. Dan Novey, the district's superintendent.
Dr. Novey will make a recommendation to the Board of Education on March 4 about how to make up for the two days missed this week- Feb. 11 and 12.
For Greene County Schools, classes will be in session on Saturday, Feb. 15 until 1 p.m.
For Jones County Schools, students will attend classes on Saturday, Feb. 15 for a half day. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m.
For Lenoir County Schools, students will have classes on Saturday, Feb. 15. They will be dismissed at noon.
Public schools in Lenoir County were closed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday because of the latest winter storm, bringing a total of seven school days missed this year due to inclement weather, according to the district.
There's been no decision yet on how to make up the other two school days missed this week.
The Lenoir County Board of Education approved on Monday a make-up schedule for the four days missed in late January, the district announced. That schedule eliminates two teacher work days on Feb. 21 and March 28, changes Feb. 20 and Feb. 27 from early-out days to full school days, and uses time built into the normal school calendar in excess of state requirements to offset another six-hour school day.
