GRIFTON, LENOIR COUNTY -

Investigators said they arrested a man for allegedly growing dozens of marijuana plants inside his Lenoir County home.

According to the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office, deputies received an anonymous tip on Oct. 17 about suspicious activity at 3611 Crystal Park Lane in Grifton. When deputies arrived that evening, they saw that the windows of the home were blocked with tarps and blankets, said Sheriff Chris Hill.

The deputies then smelled marijuana from a partially-open window while walking around the home, Sheriff hill said. The homeowner, 27-year-old Clarence Sidney Davis III, was not home at the time, but allowed the deputies to search the residence.

The deputies found a marijuana growing operation in two bedrooms of the home, according to Sheriff Hill. Forty potted marijuana plants, between 1 foot to 3 feet tall, were discovered. In addition, investigators said they seized marijuana-smoking pipes and two firearms.

Davis was charged with manufacturing marijuana, possession with the intent to sell/deliver marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He received a $12,000 secured bond and was released to his bondsman.
