Still driving at 102, A local man celebrates a big birthday
James Brown lives on his own, does yard work, and still drives. He says none of that has changed now that he has turned 102.
"This is a '58 DeSoto, and this one I bought for her in '58." said Brown.
His DeSoto was bought new for his wife Gertrude.
"Her name was Gertrude McDaniel, but of course I changed that to Gertrude Brown." said Brown.
Today Brown drives the DeSoto and a pickup truck. He says he always pays attention to his own ability and will give up driving when the time comes, but for now he loves the independence.
"My favorite thing about driving is you don't have to bother anybody you just have to take, and go out, and go about your business, and come back." said Brown.
Brown says he doesn't know if there is a secret to a happy life, but he has always lived by two simple rules.
"I won't say I've been very good all my days. But I tried to, at the beginning, I tried to obey my parents and I tried to treat the other fella as I would have them to treat me. And I just went through life like that," said Brown.
