HUBERT, ONSLOW COUNTY -

One person is in jail after an early-morning robbery involving a screwdriver.

Onslow County deputies said Wesley Keith Baxter, 24, used a screwdriver to rob a customer at the Scotchman Store on Highway 172 in Hubert. It happened at 4:10 a.m. Sunday, investigators said.

Deputies said Baxter was wearing a ski mask over a helmet. The suspect drove away from the scene on his moped while still wearing his ski mask-covered helmet, investigators said. Deputies stopped Baxter shortly thereafter. Baxter then reportedly apologized for the robbery, saying times are tough and he needed the cash.

The suspect was being held in the Onslow County Jail under a $130,000 bond.

Baxter has been charged with robbery with a firearm or other dangerous weapon, larceny from a person, assault with a deadly weapon, and two counts of kidnapping, deputies said.
