JONES COUNTY -

A former Jones County teaching assistant and assistant football coach has been found guilty of committing sex crimes against students.

Dammion Martin, 39, of Maysville, was convicted on two counts of sex offense with a student Friday afternoon. But he was found not guilty on two counts of second-degree sexual offense, said Assistant District Attorney Bob Rupe.

The judge sentenced Martin to two years and two months in prison. In addition, he must be listed as a sex offender for 30 years.

Investigators said Martin made two female students perform sex acts at Jones Senior High School near Trenton in 2006 and 2008.

One of those victims spoke to NewsChannel12.

"I think that justice has been served," the victim said. "I think that everyone should know that sexual assault and harassment is not okay."

The victim also had a message for anyone who is also the victim of a sex offense.

"Sexual assault and harassment doesn't just happen to women but to men as well and it's okay to speak out," she said. "I would like to send a message to anyone who is been a victim of sexual assault or harassment. Please don't hold yourself prisoner and your own body.  After you say something to someone who doesn't believe you keep speaking until your voice his heard."
