The sentencing hearing began Tuesday for three men involved in the beating death of a wheelchair-bound man in Beaufort County.
Arturo Lopez-Perez pleaded guilty on Feb. 28 to murdering of 53-year-old Leonard Alfred Wilson III. A neighbor found Wilson's beaten body in his home, on Main Street in Bath, on Oct. 7, 2010, investigators said. The cause of death was blunt force trauma.
Lopez-Perez also pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary, robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony larceny and first-degree arson for Wilson's murder. He could get up to life in prison with parole, according to the district attorney.
Two other men were arrested in connection to Wilson's murder. Martel Deval Weston and Domonic Kidean Farrow both pleaded guilty to lesser crimes and testified against Lopez-Perez.
Wilson had lived in Bath for 15 years. According to neighbors, Wilson was a mentor to Lopez-Perez.
