NEW BERN -

As holiday travel resumes as it always does this time of year, law enforcement officials urged caution, Monday.

A mid-west winter storm is headed to North Carolina. It could bring snow in the western part of the state and rain to the east. It's timing coincides with one of the busiest times of the year for travel.

"Our goal is to ensure that all motorists arrive at their destinations in a safe and timely manner," said Colonel Bill Grey, of the highway patrol.

Troopers will be cracking down on speeders and aggressive drivers in the state.

Ahead of the storm, trucks were prepared with plows at the Department of Transportation in Craven County.

Travelers prepared Monday as well. Some already leaving for their thanksgiving destinations.

"We'll be in California tonight at 9:00," said Jim Dunn. Dunn was traveling by air through Albert J. Ellis Airport. "and we can just sit back and relax and look at the weather behind us and say "Hey!" you know?"
