EDGEFIELD, S.C. -

Some people in Eastern North Carolina say they felt the ground shake Friday night.

The U.S. Geological Survey says a 4.1 magnitude earthquake was centered near Edgefield, S.C. (red dot in picture).  That's about 60 miles southwest of Columbia, S.C.

According to the USGS, the earthquake hit at 10:23 p.m.  It was centered almost 7.5 miles from Edgefield.  It was at a depth of three miles.

A number of viewers contacted our newsroom Friday night saying they had felt what they believed was an earthquake.  There is no confirmation if what they felt was the earthquake in South Carolina.
