Tuesday and Wednesday, military spouses in Onslow County will be able to get a care package of their own.
Support Military Spouses, a nonprofit organization, supports husbands and wives of military service men and women nationwide.
"I feel honored to be able to show appreciation to the military spouses who do so much and sacrifice so much," said Meagan Brewer, outreach coordinator for Support Military Spouses.
This is the fourth year that the organization has put together care packages in a shoebox for military spouses. Some of the goodies inside include coffee, jewelry, the New Testament, and bath products.
Military spouses like Danielle Disbennett say a gift like this means a lot more than you would think.
"I do feel that the Marine Corps does do a lot for us," Disbennett said. "It's just that I think that we make a lot of sacrifices too, and sometimes it feels like we're a little left out of the whole thing, but this is really great."
New River Marine Luke Johnson applauds his wife for her role in the military community.
"My job is pretty easy, but her putting up with me, and my training and my deployments -- I've had three deployments already -- I'm hoping she realizes there are people here who help," Johnson said.
Military spouses must register online at http://supportmilitaryspouses.org/ to reserve their shoebox gift. They can pick up their gifts from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Marine Federal Credit Union on Western Boulevard. They must show their military IDs.
