NC State head coach Elliott Avent scored his 600th career win with the Wolfpack as Logan Jernigan and Ethan Ogburn combined to shut out Charlotte 5-0, Tuesday.

State (1-1) broke a scoreless tie in the bottom third, taking a 1-0 lead. The Pack added a pair of runs in the seventh and eighth to set the final at 5-0.

Jernigan worked the first four innings, holding the 49ers (1-1) to three hits while striking out five. Ogburn (1-0) finished the game allowing just one hit over the final five innings.

Trea Turner scored twice in a 2-for-3 outing with one RBI and one stolen base. Sophomore transfer Jake Armstrong knocked in a pair of runs with his first career hit at NC State, a two-out triple to the right field corner in the eighth.

Charlotte lefthander John Hamilton (0-1) took the loss on two runs, one earned, over the first 6 2/3 innings. Brock Hudgens, Jordan Hudson, and Wes Hatley gave up three runs combined, one earned, in the final 1 1/3.

Turner led off the third with a single to left center, then advanced to second on a passed ball. Sam Morgan’s fly to right pushed Turner to third. Brett Austin grounded to the right side to bring in the run.

That lead held for three scoreless innings before the Pack pulled away. In the seventh, Will Nance led off with a single up the middle. Matt Bergquist bunted pinch-runner Chance Shepard to second with one out, allowing him to score on Turner’s RBI double to left field.

In the eighth inning, Brett Williams led off by reaching on an errant throw by Charlotte’s shortstop. Jake Fincher put two on with a bunt single. Two quick outs put the pressure on Armstrong, who delivered with a two-RBI triple to the right field corner.
