DURHAM -

After leading fourth-ranked Duke to victories over 25th-ranked St. John’s and Georgia Tech this past week, Duke sophomore Elizabeth Williams was named ACC Player of the Week on Monday by a vote of the Blue Ribbon Panel.

Williams averaged 20.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.5 blocks and 1.5 assists on the week. A product of Virginia Beach, Va., hit 17-of-28 field goals in the two games for a 60.7 field goal percentage.

In the Georgia Tech contest, the 6-3 center posted a career-high 25 points to go along with 11 rebounds and six blocked shots. It marked her first double-double of the season and sixth of her career. She hit 10-of-14 field goals and 5-of-5 from the charity stripe.

On Sunday versus St. John’s, Williams had a team-high 16 points, seven rebounds, five blocks and two assists as Duke downed the Red Storm, 60-42, at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y.  The honor for Williams is the first ACC Player of the Week accolade of her career.  She tied an ACC record a year ago with nine ACC Rookie of the Week selections.

Maryland’s Tierney Pfirman was selected ACC Rookie of the Week on Monday.

Williams and the Blue Devils enter exam break with an 8-0 record and will be off until Dec. 21-22 when Duke travels to Los Angeles, Calif., to participate in the Trojan Classic.
