Vliegen Earns C-USA Monthly Tennis Award

Memphis' LIZA TYMCHENKO and JORAN VLIEGEN of East Carolina capture Conference USA Tennis Athletes of the Month awards for November.

Tymchenko went 6-2 in singles play, including a pair of victories over ranked opponents, while Vliegen captured the Blue Flight title at the "Big Jim" Russell Memorial Invitational.

WOMEN'S TENNIS ATHLETE OF THE MONTH (NOV.)
LIZA TYMCHENKO, MEMPHIS
Sophomore / Kharkov, Ukraine

Tymchenko went 6-2 in singles play during the month of November, including three wins over members of last year's national championship team, Florida.

Tymchenko defeated No. 49 Alexandra Cercone and No. 78 Caroline Hitimana of Florida in the semifinals and finals of the Dick Vitale Classic to capture her first career tournament title.

Tymchenko teamed up with Skylar Kuykendall to post a 3-2 record in doubles with wins over Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Tulsa.

The duo recorded three wins at the Memphis Invitational before falling to the No. 51 team of Ashleigh Antal and Marie Casares of Vanderbilt.

Tymchenko finished the fall with a 13-3 record in singles and 7-4 mark in doubles in her first season as a Lady Tiger.

MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE MONTH (NOV.)
JORAN VLIEGEN, EAST CAROLINA
Junior, Maaseilk, Belgium

Vliegen captured the Blue Flight title at the "Big Jim" Russell Memorial Invitational at North Carolina with a pair of three-set victories.

He first defeated Virginia Tech's Luca Oliveria, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, followed by eliminating North Carolina's William Parker, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Vliegen teamed with freshman Colin Roller to win their doubles flight by earning two victories against North Carolina and one from Virginia Tech.

Then defeated Andrew Gores/William Parker of UNC, 8-6, and collected an 8-3 win over Andrew Gores/Stuart DePaolo.

They ended tournament action with an 8-5 win over VT's Marko Lourinovic/Lucas Oliveria.
