Carolina signs draft pick
The Panthers have announced they've signed second round draft choice Kawann Short.
Short, a defensive tackle from Purdue, was the 44th overall pick in April's NFL draft. He's the first of Carolina's five draft picks to sign.
Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed Wednesday.
The 6-foot-3, 308-pound Short started 50 games for Purdue and finished third in Boilermakers history with 19.5 sacks. He also had 49 tackles for losses and a school-record eight blocked kicks.
Panthers general manager Gettleman said a press release that Short "was the best pass-rushing defensive tackle in the draft" and "we are excited about what he can bring to our defensive front."
Short is expected to battle with first-round pick Star Lotulelei and veteran Dwan Edwards for a starting spot at defensive tackle.
