RALEIGH- Jaylen Samuels rushed for three touchdowns and caught two more, and Charlotte Mallard Creek beat Wake Forest 59-21 on Saturday night in the Class 4-AA North Carolina High School Athletic Association championship game.
   
James Smith was 7 of 12 for 180 yards with three touchdowns, hitting Samuels on scoring passes of 12 and 68 yards plus a 49-yard TD to Vernon Grier. They helped Mallard Creek (16-0) win its first state title.
   
Samuels, the game MVP, scored on runs of 19 and 3 while helping Mallard Creek take a 17-0 first-quarter lead. He added a 62-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter.
   
Mack Moore rushed 20 yards for a touchdown and threw a 15-yard scoring pass to Devante Reynolds, and Kendall Massey returned a fumble 20 yards for a TD for Wake Forest (12-4).
   
The Cougars lost in the 4-AA title game for the second time in four years.

4A

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Lamarc Watlington rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns, and Greensboro Dudley beat Scotland County 24-7 on Saturday in the Class 4-A North Carolina High School Athletic Association championship game.
   
Watlington scored on runs of 6 and 2 yards and quarterback Emmanuel Mosley added a 3-yard touchdown run for Dudley (15-0). The Panthers won their third state title since 2007 by outrushing Scotland County 272-31.
   
Dudley held a 301-113 advantage in total yardage.
   
Scotland County (15-1), which won the 2011 state title, led 7-0 when Brandon McMillian returned a fumble 79 yards for a touchdown with 7:35 left in the first quarter.
   
Mosley put Dudley ahead to stay with his short scoring run with 7:39 left in the half that capped a 13-play drive.

3AA

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Kendall Hinton threw for 332 yards and four touchdowns Saturday to help Southern Durham rally past Shelby Crest 38-31 for the Class 3-AA North Carolina High School Athletic Association championship.
   
Hinton was named the game's most valuable player after helping the Spartans (14-2) rally from a 21-0 second-quarter deficit in their first trip to a state final.
   
After Crest (14-2) took a 31-30 lead on Alex Trejo's field goal with 1:08 left, Hinton connected with Jordan Brown for an 80-yard touchdown with 57 seconds left. Hinton passed to Maurice Trowell on the 2-point conversion, then Joshua Manns intercepted P.J. Brooks' pass at the Southern Durham 37-yard line on the final play.
   
Jalin Moore ran for 183 yards and two touchdowns for the Chargers, while Tre Harbison ran for 128 yards and two more scores. Crest was going for its fifth state title but first since 2004.

2AA

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Lamar Raynard's 38-yard touchdown pass to Carlos Manning with 1:04 left helped T.W. Andrews beat Monroe 18-14 on Friday night in the Class 2-AA North Carolina High School Athletic Association championship game.
   
Raynard threw three touchdown passes for Andrews (14-1), which won its third state title and first since 1991.
   
Marquell Cartwright rushed for 179 yards for Andrews, which won its 14th straight game after beating its previous 13 opponents by an average of 41 points.
   
Chase Bynum rushed for 131 yards for Monroe (11-4). His 12-yard touchdown run with 6:03 left put the Redhawks up 14-12.
   
Monroe advanced to the T.W. Andrews 27 before Devon Underwood's game-ending sack of Zephaniah Wall.
   
Raynard also threw TDs of 28 yards to Justin Lea and 8 yards to Daquan Wade.
   
Tre'Shun Wynn had a 4-yard touchdown run for Monroe, which lost in its only other finals appearance in 1989.
