Conference play got underway in style for some teams. DH Conley beat previously undefeated JH Rose 33-20 in the contentious rivalry game between the two Pitt County neighbors. Miles Taylor scored three touchdown and helped the Vikings roll up more than 400 yards rushing. Johnathan Shrock had two more rushing touchdowns to help DHC beat the Rampants for the second straight year. JH Rose star defensive player Kentivius Street injured an ankle in the second quarter and did not return to the game. Conley improves to 5-1 while Rose drops to 5-1.
New Bern scored a school record 42 points in the first quarter while possessing the ball one minute 36 seconds, and went on to set a school record for points scored in a 72-7 win over CB Aycock. Bears QB Mike Hughes went 14-16 for 251 yards and 5 TD passes. New Bern has now won four in a row and will visit undefeated Eastern Wayne next Friday night. The Warriors, coached by former New Bern and ECU player Bubba Williams, beat South Central 34-28.
In the Coastal Conference, the other 3-A/4-A Eastern Carolina Conference game, West Craven scored 29 unanswered points to beat West Carteret 43-17. Kylikke
Green and Kenny McDaniel returned interceptions for touchdowns for the Eagles who improve to 4-2. The Patriots drop to 4-2.
Havelock won its 20th straight game beating Richlands 28-16 in the first ever meeting between the two schools. Senior running back Taylor Woods had 174 yards rushing and scored twice. Senior Derrell Scott only carried the ball three times for 10 yards so he could rest his back which he injured verses Northside-Jax.
Jacksonville pulled away in the second half to beat Swansboro 28-14. The Cardinals improve to 5-1 while the Pirates drop to 4-2.
James Kenan stayed undefeated and started 1-A Carolina Conference play with a 35-14 win over Princeton. And Wallace-Rose Hill started Four County Conference play with a 70-0 win over undermanned Trask.
