Teenagers float out to sea, firefighters called to rescue
Two vacationing teenage boys floated nearly one mile into the ocean Sunday; the water carried their small dingy off the Emerald Isle coast as their mother watched in horror, rescuers said.
Firefighters in Emerald Isle got the call just after 5:30 p.m.
Crews using binoculars could barely see the teenagers, who had not realized how far they had floated until it was too late to paddle back, crews said.
Firefighters used a jet ski to retrieve the boys one at a time, and brought them back to the beach near the 9500 block of Ocean Drive, crews said.
They teenagers were not hurt.
The U.S. Coast Guard retrieved their boat, which is similar to the one pictured above this story.
